Everyday Gratitude

There is always uncertainty in the world - and especially in our personal worlds. Has there ever been a time in your life that certainty was guaranteed - when you knew without a doubt that everything would be the same tomorrow as it is today; your kids would be safe, your finances would be secure, your partner would be loyal and mother nature wouldn't surprise you with any natural disasters? Life is not certain - it never has been and it never will be. In fact, if it were certain, we would probably be bored. If we wait for the world to bring us certainty in order to be grateful, we will be waiting a long time and even if we finally do feel certain in all areas of our lives, it won't last for long. True gratitude is not conditioned on certainty - true gratitude comes despite it. No matter what is happening in your life or in the world, there are always gifts and abundance falling upon you. Sometimes they are harder to see, and we have to look deeper but there they are always there. Years ago, one of my dearest friends discovered that her toddler had cancer and she herself was soon diagnosed with M.S. Between that, raising three other children, a husband who traveled for work and all the financial challenges that ensued, life was overwhelming. And yet, somehow she found deep and lasting gratitude. Neighbors and friends came to her aid with meals, time and emotional support. Even people she never met before brought her exactly what she needed when she needed it. Now, she could have focused on all the painful challenges in her life, but instead she found enormous gratitude for all the good that was given to her - without any conditions attached. Her challenges went on for many years but now she looks back upon those challenging years and feels enormous gratitude - not just for the obvious gifts but for the challenges that strengthened her and helped her grow into the powerful woman she is today. I truly believe that she and her child were restored to perfect health because she continuously chose gratitude over fear. Somehow we believe that we should only have gratitude for the good things in our life, but the truth is - everything that happens to us is a gift. Sometimes it is a gift that feels wonderful and abundant, but other times it is a gift that challenges us to discover our strength, potential, hidden gifts, purpose, or to heal old issues. This glorious universe that we live in absolutely provides us exactly what we need, even if it doesn't seem that way at the time. Right now your life might be in turmoil, or you might be worried about economic and world events that threaten to touch you and your family. It is very easy to focus on problems and challenges, but stop for a moment and reconsider. Reconsider your current challenges as amazing opportunities for your growth and power. Reconsider all the wonderful things in your life that might go unnoticed because they are going well.

As you reconsider, you will begin to notice that the world and your life is not short on everyday miracles, synchronicities and the simplicity of providing exactly what you need, when you need it. As you begin to pay attention and pay gratitude to all the things in your life - good and bad, you will also notice that everyday brings more and more things for which to be grateful. The challenges turn into huge gifts and an abundance of magic seems to fall out of the sky - just for you!

In grace & gratitude,
